The Guaranteed Secured Mastercard is the Guaranteed Mastercard with one difference: security funds are always required, where on the Guaranteed they are only a possibility. Same $0 fee, same 29.9% rate outside Quebec, same four approval conditions and the same benefits booklet.
I'd point it at the same people, newcomers to Canada and anyone rebuilding credit, who are comfortable parking some cash as a deposit. Between the two, I'd look at the Guaranteed first, since its deposit is only a maybe.
Welcome offer
There is no welcome bonus on the Guaranteed Secured Mastercard, and the card earns no points or cash back, so there is nothing to unlock with spending. Capital One's product page shows the $0 fee, the approval conditions and the benefits, with no sign-up offer, as of October 2026.
What you put in up front is a security deposit, not a fee. It is collateral, and it comes back in full when you close the account with the balance paid off.
Have the deposit ready before you apply. Capital One names the amount after approval, and it says it may not be able to open the account if the required security funds aren't provided.
Fees & eligibility
The card has no annual fee ($0). Interest on purchases, balance transfers and cash advances is 29.9% outside Quebec and 21.9% for Quebec residents, with an interest-free grace period of at least 25 days on new purchases when you pay the full balance by the due date.
Approval is guaranteed if you are at least the age of majority in your province or territory, your credit profile isn't frozen and you aren't barred from credit for legal or regulatory reasons, you have no existing or pending Capital One account, and you haven't applied for a Capital One account more than once in the last 30 days, had a Capital One account not in good standing in the last year or been in legal recoveries with Capital One. No minimum income or credit score is listed.
Security funds are required. Capital One tells you the amount after approval, you send it through your bank's online banking to receive the card, and it is returned in full if you close the account with the balance paid off. The page prints no deposit amount and no credit limit range.
Perks & benefits
The headline feature is guaranteed approval for anyone who meets the four conditions, none of which is an income figure or a credit score. Capital One also includes Credit Keeper, its free credit score tracker, and alerts for payment due dates, nearing your credit limit and unexpected charges.
Day to day, the Price Protection Service refunds a price drop in Canada within 60 days ($10 to $100 per item, up to $500 per calendar year), with computers, phones and similar electronics excluded. There is no lounge access, travel credit or status.
Insurance
The card carries the same benefits booklet as Capital One's Smart Rewards, and it leans toward purchases. Purchase Assurance covers eligible items against loss, theft or damage for 120 days, and Extended Warranty doubles the manufacturer's warranty by up to 2 extra years, with a $60,000 lifetime cap per account across both.
For travel there is rental car collision and loss damage cover for up to 31 days, $250,000 common carrier travel accident insurance and baggage delay cover of $100 a day for up to 3 days. There is no emergency medical, trip cancellation, trip interruption, flight delay or lost baggage coverage, so buy separate travel medical insurance before leaving Canada.
My take
I'd pick the Guaranteed Secured only if you need a guaranteed yes and a refundable deposit is fine with you; otherwise I'd start with the Guaranteed Mastercard, where security funds are only a maybe.
Capital One calls this a regular credit card that requires security funds, and that is fair: same $0 fee, same 29.9% rate outside Quebec and the same purchase cover as the Guaranteed and Smart Rewards cards. The deposit is collateral, and it comes back in full when you close the account with nothing owing.
What I'd want before sending money is the part the page leaves out: how much the deposit is, what credit limit it gets you and whether Capital One ever moves the account to unsecured. I'd ask those at approval, because the product page doesn't answer them.
The good
- Guaranteed approval if you meet four conditions, with no income or credit score listed
- $0 annual fee, and the deposit is returned in full when you close with the balance paid
- 120-day purchase assurance and up to 2 extra years of warranty
The catch
- Security funds always required, amount set after approval
- 29.9% interest outside Quebec
- No rewards
