Review: Delta Hotels Toronto

Since I was attending a DJ tour in downtown Toronto, I wanted to stay overnight near the event venue. Given that these events often end very late at night, my goal was to minimize travel time and quickly get to bed after the event.

Luckily, I had an Annual Free Night Award from the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card, which covered the cost of my hotel stay.

Booking (September 2023)

Back in 2023, Delta Hotels Toronto typically went for around $400 to $500 a night during the peak summer months. It got even more expensive on event dates, which happen quite often in that neighbourhood.

On the night of my stay, rooms were going for $550+ for a king bed.

My Free Night Award covers a night of up to 35,000 points, so I topped it up with 2,000 points from my account. At $550, that made the 37,000-point night worth about 1.5 cents per point, an exceptional value.

Location

The hotel is located in the heart of Toronto’s downtown core, near the iconic CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, and the Rogers Centre. Its proximity to these landmarks makes it a popular choice for visitors wanting to explore Toronto.

Reaching the hotel from the airport is also a seamless journey: just one train ride on the UP Express to Union station, followed by a 10-minute walk.

Lobby & Check-in

The entire check-in process was very smooth. There are three front desk counters, one of them a priority lane for Bonvoy Elite members, and with about six staff helping with check-in, long queues were effectively prevented.

Having experienced numerous lengthy check-in lines at peak times, I found this efficiency truly impressive. Every member of the front desk team I interacted with was professional and proactive, including the trainees.

Room (Deluxe King Corner)

I originally booked a standard king room. As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I replied to the hotel’s pre-arrival email three days before check-in. I politely asked about an upgrade (a practice affectionately known as “suite-talking” 😀).

I kept the request modest: a king deluxe room with a soaker bathtub. No suites were available that night anyway, but I got exactly what I asked for: an upgrade to a Deluxe King corner room, soaker tub included.

The room is on the smaller side (around 360 sq ft), but it has a modern and chic ambience overall.

View

As a corner room guest, I had the privilege of enjoying both the skyline and the CN Tower views (though the view of both at once was only from the bathroom).

Desk Area

Given the small room size, the desk is also a bit small, but good enough for getting some work done. It faces the CN Tower directly, and it was a delight to enjoy the view during short breaks from work.

The Wi-Fi offered decent stability and speed, averaging around 80 Mbps, which was more than enough for work or streaming.

Bathroom

What differentiates a deluxe room from a standard room is the soaking bathtub. There’s truly nothing more delightful than relaxing in a bath while gazing at the panoramic skyline after a long day.

There’s also a walk-in shower. The toiletries were fairly standard: Soapbox shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

Executive Lounge

Delta Hotels Toronto has a Club Lounge on the 43rd floor. Platinum Elite members and above, plus guests staying in Club Lounge access rooms, have complimentary access.

The moderately sized lounge has floor-to-ceiling windows, with a few different areas that each have their own atmosphere.

In addition to the breathtaking views of the CN Tower and Lake Ontario, coffee, tea, soft drinks, and light snacks are served throughout the day.

Hors d’oeuvres are served from 5pm to 8pm, and they certainly lived up to my expectations. While the options weren’t extensive, there was a solid mix of hot and cold dishes displayed nicely, plus eye-catching desserts.

The evening I visited had a Mexican theme: Mexican molletes, tres leches cake, dulce de leche cheesecake, and Mexican chocolate tarts. In my opinion, it perfectly embodied the essence of hors d’oeuvres, which are meant to tease the taste buds rather than stuff your stomach.

Breakfast

For Platinum Elite members and above, complimentary breakfast is served in the Club Lounge on the 43rd floor.

The breakfast spread was quite satisfying, with a continental breakfast plus extras like chia pudding with berries, yogurt, smoked salmon, and a variety of fresh fruits. There were hot dishes too: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages and roasted potatoes.

Amenities

Delta Hotels Toronto has both a gym and a pool on the fourth floor.

Gym

The gym is decently sized and open 24 hours. It has a great mix of cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights. (Unfortunately for gym bros, there’s no Smith machine.)

It also has a separate fitness studio with spin bikes, for yoga and exercise classes.

Pool

Next to the gym is an indoor heated pool that’s open daily from 6am to 11pm. There are deck chairs for guests to relax, along with a hot tub and a change room with lockers.

The pool also has a small balcony facing the CN Tower, where you can enjoy some fresh air and people-watch.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Delta Toronto, and I’d confidently rank this hotel as my top pick for accommodation in Toronto. With easy access from the airport and a prime location for exploring the city’s attractions, it’s an excellent choice for travellers.

I’ve also found it well suited for locals looking for a staycation, business travellers, and families catching a game at Rogers Centre.

From the room to the amenities to the exceptional club lounge, Delta Toronto exceeded all my expectations. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
