The Money-Back World is the card I'd point to when someone wants a no-fee card that bends around their own spending instead of the bank's. You choose where the 2% goes from a list of 13 categories, and if your cash back goes into a Tangerine Savings Account, you get a third category on top.
What holds it back is the floor. Everything outside your chosen categories earns just 0.5%, and the card charges a 2.5% foreign transaction fee. From what I can tell, it works best as the card for two or three big categories, paired with something stronger for everything else.
Welcome offer
Tangerine is offering $120 in cash back on the Money-Back World Mastercard, verified on the Tangerine page on October 13, 2026. To earn it, apply by November 30, 2026, activate the card within 45 days of approval, and post $1,500 in net purchases during the 90-day promotional period that starts on the day you activate.
The $120 lands in your account about 1 to 2 statement cycles after the 90 days end, as long as the account is open and in good standing. It is limited to one offer per client, and there is no partial payout: fall short of $1,500 and the bonus is lost entirely.
The 90-day clock starts at activation, not approval, so there is no reason to activate the card before you have spending lined up. $1,500 over three months is about $500 a month, which most households clear with groceries and recurring bills alone.
Fees & eligibility
The card has no annual fee ($0), and up to 5 authorized users can be added at no cost. Purchases carry a 20.95% interest rate, and cash advances and balance transfers 22.95%, with no grace period on either. Missing 2 consecutive minimum payments moves the rates to 25.95% and 27.95%.
To qualify, you need one of three things: a gross annual income of $50,000, a gross household income of $80,000, or $250,000 held in Tangerine Savings and Investment Fund accounts. New accounts also get a balance transfer offer of 1.95% for 6 statement periods on transfers made within 30 days, with a 1% fee. Purchases made in a foreign currency carry a 2.5% conversion fee.
Earning rewards
Earning is built on choice: you pick 2 categories that earn 2% cash back, or 3 categories if your rewards are deposited into a Tangerine Savings Account. Neither rate is capped, and everything else earns 0.5%.
The 13 categories on offer are grocery, restaurants, gas, entertainment, furniture, hotel-motel, drug store, recurring bill payments, home improvement, public transportation and parking, fitness and sports clubs, e-games, and foreign currency spend. You can make one change at any time after opening, and each change after that takes effect only after a 90-day hold.
Redeeming rewards
There is nothing to redeem by hand. Cash back is calculated on every purchase and paid out automatically each month, on or about your statement date, either into a Tangerine Savings Account or as a credit to the card.
The savings route is the better one, since it unlocks the third 2% category. A credit to the card does not count toward your minimum payment, and rewards cannot be taken as cash or sent to an account at another bank. Missing one minimum payment holds back that month's cash back, and missing two in a row cancels it.
Perks & benefits
The perks are light, which is normal at this price. The most useful one for drivers is Shell Go+: link the card and get an instant 3 cents per litre off fuel at participating Shell stations, up to 1,000 litres a month. Tangerine's "up to 8 cents per litre" figure adds 2% cash back (with gas as a chosen category) and Scene+ points on premium fuel.
For travel, the card unlocks a FlexiRoam eSIM with 1GB of global data once per calendar year, then 15% off data plans. Mastercard Travel Pass gives access to 1,300+ airport lounges, but it is a membership only: every visit is paid. There is no foreign transaction fee waiver, no travel credit and no status.
Insurance
The insurance covers things you buy and cars you rent, not trips. There is no emergency medical, no trip cancellation or interruption, and no flight or baggage delay coverage, so travel medical needs a separate policy.
What it does include is useful on a $0 card. Mobile device insurance pays up to $1,000 if a phone or tablet is lost, stolen or damaged, and rental cars get primary collision and loss damage coverage for up to 31 days on vehicles worth up to $65,000. New purchases are covered for 90 days, and manufacturer warranties are doubled by up to 1 extra year.
My take
I'd get this card if two or three of your biggest bills fit Tangerine's category list and you're happy to keep a Tangerine Savings Account; I'd skip it as an only card, because 0.5% on everything else is too low.
What I like is that the 2% is uncapped and follows your spending rather than a fixed menu, and the list is wider than most: restaurants, recurring bills, transit and parking, even foreign currency purchases. For a household that spends heavily in a few places, that is a lot of 2% for a card with no fee.
The weak spots are the base rate and the gaps in the categories. Big-box and wholesale grocery runs don't count as grocery, the 2.5% FX fee applies abroad, and the insurance stops at phones, rentals and purchases. I'd treat it as a strong second card, and I'd make sure the cash back goes to savings so the third category isn't left on the table.
The good
- Uncapped 2% in 2 categories you choose, 3 with a savings deposit
- No annual fee, including up to 5 authorized users
- Mobile device insurance up to $1,000 and primary rental CDW
The catch
- 0.5% base rate on everything outside your categories
- 2.5% foreign transaction fee
- No travel medical, cancellation or delay insurance
