I booked six nights to finish a status run and didn't expect much. A brand-new hotel with a rooftop pool proved me wrong.

Last September, I was six nights away from World of Hyatt Globalist. I was doing the 20-night Globalist Fast Track, and the last stretch was going to be in Busan anyway.

As it turned out, Busan had a brand-new Category 1 Hyatt. Hyatt Place Busan Yeonsan opened in December 2025, the first Hyatt Place in Korea.

I booked it for the points price and honestly didn't expect much.

It turned out to be way better than I expected.

Booking (September 2026)

I booked all six nights with points, at 3,000 points a night (18,000 in total). You see Category 1 nights at 4,500 and 6,000 points a lot, but 3,000 is pretty rare.

The 3,000-point nights opened up one day at a time, so I ended up with four separate bookings.

Luckily, the front desk staff were able to merge them at check-in, so I stayed in the same room for all six nights.

From what I remember, the cash rate for those nights hovered around 150,000 to 200,000 won (about $155 to $205 CAD). That works out to roughly 5 to 7 cents per point (cpp), a great use of Hyatt points.

I was Explorist during this stay, and unlike other hotel promotions, award nights count toward the Hyatt Fast Track, which is what made this mattress run work. If you're a few thousand short for a night like this, you can also buy Hyatt points.

Location

The hotel is right next to Yeonsan Station, where Lines 1 and 3 meet. Getting here isn't too hard:

  • From Gimhae Airport: the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail three stops to Daejeo, then Line 3 for 12 stops to Yeonsan
  • From Busan Station (KTX): Line 1 for 10 stops to Yeonsan, no transfer

The neighbourhood is quiet and clean during the day. After dark, though, the side streets fill up with karaoke bars and late-night drinking spots.

Seomyeon, Busan's busy downtown hangout area, is four stops away on Line 1. That's where I usually hang out, so it worked well for me.

If you're here to sightsee, the big attractions like Gwangalli Beach and Gamcheon Culture Village are a longer trip. There's a CU convenience store on the ground floor, and underground parking is free if you're driving.

Lobby & Check-in

The lobby isn't on the ground floor: check-in is on the 6th floor. Check-in took about 10 minutes, since the staff had to do something in the system to merge my bookings.

There was no upgrade to speak of, but the room was a King for all six nights, including the two I had booked as a Queen. I also got a 2pm late checkout, and I didn't ask for anything else.

Business Area

Next to the lobby there's a business area with one long wooden table. This is where I spent most of my time working, since the room didn't have a proper desk setup.

Patio

The 6th floor also has an outdoor patio with a garden path and benches. At the end of the path there are luggage lockers, handy if you arrive early or need to store your bags after checkout.

Room (1 King Bed)

My room was a 1 King Bed, which Hyatt lists at 33 m² with a large window, a city view and a 55-inch TV.

Foyer

Upon entering, the bathroom is on the right, and there's a luggage bench and a tea station on the left.

The tea tray had a kettle, a coffee bag, Akbar herbal tea and two Hyatt Place mugs. The fridge came with two bottles of water.

Welcome Gift

My welcome gift was a fruit cup from Elufarm. Turns out there's a shop on the ground floor that sells these, so you can grab more.

Bed

The king bed was comfortable, and there wasn't much noise at night.

Sitting Area

By the window there's a long daybed, a round table and an armchair. I mostly relaxed on the daybed scrolling Reels and TikTok 😂

The table was fine for light work and chores, but for actual work I went down to the business area.

TV

The TV is mounted on a wall that splits the room. Behind it, there's a small nook with a luggage rack, an ironing board and a floor lamp.

Wi-Fi

The Wi-Fi was fast: 97.8 Mbps down and 113 up when I tested it, plenty for work.

Bathroom

The bathroom has a glass-walled rain shower, a sink and a separate toilet with a bidet panel. The shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are KenetMD, in big wall-mounted bottles, and the water pressure was good.

Breakfast

Breakfast is at The Placery, the hotel's restaurant. It wasn't included for me, since free breakfast is a Globalist perk and I wasn't Globalist yet.

It was 35,000 won, or 31,500 won with the 10% discount for hotel guests.

That felt pricey, so I skipped it all six days 🥲

Amenities

Gym

The gym is on the 5th floor, with treadmills, ellipticals, a recumbent bike, dumbbells, a Smith machine and a few weight machines. There's also an InBody body-composition scale and a blood-pressure monitor, though I didn't use them.

Rooftop Pool

Up on the 28th floor, the rooftop has a long lap pool, a smaller pool with a round hot tub, a terrace with tables and a lounge corner.

The pool isn't heated. When I stayed, it was open from 10am to 9pm, but hours change, so check with the hotel before you go.

Since it isn't heated, I'm not sure it stays open in winter. Ask at check-in if the pool is a big part of your plan.

Final Thoughts

Hyatt Place Busan Yeonsan was way better than I expected. Being brand new helps, and the room was big, comfortable and quiet.

Would I come back? Yes, for another mattress run or whenever a 3,000-point night shows up. I usually hang out in Seomyeon anyway, and it's only four stops away.

If you're visiting Busan to sightsee, though, the location is far from the main attractions like Gwangalli Beach and Gamcheon Culture Village. I'd stay closer to those instead.

It feels undervalued at Category 1, and my guess is it moves up to Category 2 within the next year.

If you've stayed here in the winter, please let us know in the comments if the pool was open. And if you tried the breakfast, let us know how it was!
