- No Aeroplan sale is on right now. The last one, October 14 to 29, 2026, added up to 90% more points, and the bonus varied by member.
- The bonus grew with the amount: 50% from 5,000 points, 75% from 30,000 and 90% from 80,000.
- In my cart, 100,000 points plus the 90,000 bonus came to CA$3,750, about 1.97 cents per point, charged in Canadian dollars.
- Aeroplan has run a sale every month or two in 2026, usually up to 100%, so 90% was a little below normal.
Aeroplan's last buy points sale, up to 90% more points, ran from October 14 to 29, 2026. Like most Aeroplan sales lately, the bonus percentage varied by member.
A purchase of 100,000 points cost $3,750 CAD, and with the 90% bonus it came to 190,000 points, which worked out to about 1.97 cents per point.

Are Aeroplan sales good?
The last one was a mediocre offer, slightly below Aeroplan's usual.
Most of its sales in the last two years went up to 100%, with a flash sale in July 2026 of up to 110%.
A sale makes the most sense if you have immediate travel plans and are a few points short. With so many ways to earn Aeroplan points in Canada, I wouldn't buy speculatively at 1.97 cents.
How much are Aeroplan points worth?
I value Aeroplan points at about 2 cents per point (cpp), but honestly, you only get close to that if you know how Aeroplan awards work.
Most of that value comes from booking partner airlines, mainly business class on Star Alliance carriers, where the points price is often far below what the seat sells for. Finding those seats takes some practice.
Spend the same points on Air Canada flights priced off the cash fare, or on short economy trips, and they're usually worth a lot less. In that case, buying at 1.97 cents means paying more than you'll get back.

So buying only makes sense for a specific award.
Find the seat first, check how many points you're missing, then buy that amount (and maybe a little more to reach the next bonus tier).
How to buy
- Sign in on aircanada.com, open the menu with the three dots at the bottom left, then choose Aeroplan, "Buy points, donate and more" and "Buy, gift, boost or reinstate points". Or go straight to the buy points page.
- Choose how many points you want. During a sale, the bonus for your account shows up in the cart before you pay.
- Check the total. Canadians are charged in Canadian dollars, so there's no foreign transaction fee.

Purchases are final. You can't get a refund or send the points back, so be sure about the award before you pay.
Which credit card should you use to buy Aeroplan points?
Aeroplan charges Canadians in Canadian dollars, so you don't need a card without foreign transaction fees for this one. What matters is what the purchase earns you back.
Points.com processes the sale for Aeroplan, so it doesn't count as an Air Canada or travel purchase. You earn your card's base rate.
That makes it a handy way to reach a welcome bonus. If you're working toward one, like the $10,000 in three months on The Platinum Card® from American Express, put the purchase on that card.
Otherwise, a premium card that earns 1.25 points per dollar on everything is a great choice: the RBC® Avion® Visa Infinite Privilege‡, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card or the Business Platinum Card® from American Express.
If you prefer straight cash back, the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite+* Credit Card and the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card both pay 2% on everything.
Other ways to earn Aeroplan points
Buying is the most expensive way to get Aeroplan points, so check these before the next sale.
Credit card welcome bonuses
In October 2026, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card and the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card offer up to 50,000 points each, worth about $985 at the last sale's price.
The premium cards go higher: up to 85,000 on the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card, and up to 100,000 on the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card and the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card. All 13 Aeroplan cards are in my card catalogue.
Rent and bills
Chexy lets you pay rent, utilities, taxes, tuition and other bills with a credit card, for a 1.75% fee on Canadian cards. It's an easy way to reach a welcome bonus's minimum spend.
Everyday spending
The American Express Cobalt® Card earns 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar on groceries and dining, up to $2,500 a month, and those points move to Aeroplan at 1:1. For daily spending, it's the best card for building an Aeroplan balance.
Transfers
If you have American Express Membership Rewards points, they move to Aeroplan at 1:1, usually within 30 minutes. Amex doesn't run transfer bonuses to Aeroplan, but 1:1 is already a good rate.
Hotel points can go too, at worse rates: Hyatt at 2:1, Marriott Bonvoy at 3:1, IHG at 5:1 and Hilton at 10:1. My transfer partners page has every route.
Flying
If you often pay cash for Air Canada flights, the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card is the best card for it: 3 points per dollar on Air Canada purchases made directly with Air Canada. You also earn points on the flights themselves, on Air Canada and Star Alliance partners.
Shopping
If you shop often with retailers like Amazon, Apple and lululemon, the Aeroplan eStore is a great way to add points, and it covers many other stores too.

Final Thoughts
The last sale was a fair one, not a great one.
Aeroplan has run one every month or two in 2026, so another will likely come along soon. If you can wait, I'd hold out for one that goes to 100%.
If you already have a trip in mind, the numbers are simple: about 1.97 cents a point at 90%, paid in Canadian dollars. For a business class seat that would cost a lot more in cash, that can be a good deal.
