30% Bonus from Amex MR to Marriott Bonvoy

American Express Canada has just unveiled a 30% transfer bonus promotion from American Express Membership Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy points.

This is an excellent opportunity to maximize your points, if you’re in need of hotel bookings for your next vacation.

Be sure not to overlook this opportunity, as the promotion is valid from March 1st to April 30th, 2024.

Quick Overview

The standard transfer ratio from American Express Membership Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy is 1:1.2.

In other words, for every 1,000 MR points transferred, you’d typically receive 1,200 Marriott Bonvoy points.

With the 30% bonus, the transfer ratio gets boosted to 1:1.56 ratio.

This means that every 1,000 MR points transferred, you’ll now receive 1,560 Marriott Bonvoy points.

I made a test transfer of 1,000 MR points from my American Express Cobalt,

and as expected, I received the additional 30% bonus points. (1,200 + 360 = 1,560 Marriott Bonvoy points)

How to Transfer MR to Marriott Bonvoy

Step 1. Sign into your American Express account and click “View and Redeem Points“

Step 2. Select the account you wish to transfer points from. (Amex Cobalt for example)

Step 3. Click “Transfer Points” from the “Use Points” dropdown menu

Step 4. Scroll down to Marriott banner and click “Transfer my points”

Step 5. Type the amount of points you wish to transfer (1,000 minimum)

If you already have your Marriott account linked to American Express, the transfer will complete almost immediately.

However, if this is your first time linking your accounts, it may take up to 5 business days.

Step 6. Confirm transfer

Sometimes you will only see the standard transfer ration popup, but don’t worry.

I’ve done a test transfer and confirmed that the bonus points are applied seamlessly.

Final Thoughts

While this is a great promo for hotel enthusiasts like myself,

others may opt to hold onto their MR points for flight redemptions instead.

That’s because MR points can be transferred to airline loyalty programs such as Aeroplan, which often offer higher value compared to the average hotel redemption via Marriott Bonvoy.

Therefore, carefully assess your redemption needs before April 30, 2024 to make the most out of this promotion.
