- Until November 23, 2026, Marriott adds a bonus when you buy points: up to 50% on my account, and up to 55% has been reported.
- The minimum is 2,000 points. The yearly limit is 200,000 during the sale (normally 150,000), and bonus points don't count toward it.
- Points cost US$12.50 per 1,000 before the bonus, so about 0.83 US cents each at 50%, plus GST/HST.
- Marriott's sales since 2025 have run from 40% to 50%, so this is as good as it gets.
Marriott doesn't email me about its buy points sales, so I check the offer page in my account every so often. Right now it shows a bonus of up to 50% until November 23, 2026, and others have reported up to 55%.
The bonus depends on your account and on how many points you buy. Marriott also raised the yearly limit for the sale, from 150,000 to 200,000 points.
| What | Details |

| Bonus | Up to 50% on my account (up to 55% reported) |
| Dates | September 29 at 9am ET to November 23, 2026, at 11:59pm ET |
| Minimum | 2,000 points |
| Limit | 200,000 points a year during the sale (normally 150,000); bonus points don't count |
| Price | US$12.50 per 1,000 points, before the bonus |
| Tax | GST/HST for Canadian residents, QST in Quebec |
What a point costs
At 50%, every 1,000 points come with 500 more for US$12.50, so about 0.83 US cents per point. That's about 1.18 Canadian cents at the October 16 exchange rate, and at 55% it drops to about 0.81 US cents.
Then add tax. With Ontario's 13% HST, the 50% price comes to about 0.94 US cents (1.33 Canadian cents) a point. Marriott charges in US dollars, so a foreign transaction fee applies too unless your card waives it.
Is it a good sale?
For Marriott, yes. Its sales since 2025 have offered 40% to 50%, and only the August 2026 sale matched this one.
If your account shows 40%, that's still Marriott's usual. It runs about four sales a year, most of them six weeks or longer, so you won't wait long for the next one.
When buying makes sense
Marriott prices awards by date, so do the math for each stay. A night at 50,000 points would cost about US$470 in bought points at 50%, with Ontario's HST.
If the cash rate for that night is well above that, buying works. If it's close, pay cash and earn points on the stay instead.
How to buy
- Sign in at Marriott.com and open the buy points page.
- Choose the amount. Your bonus shows before you pay.
- Pay in US dollars. GST/HST is added for Canadian residents, and QST in Quebec.
Purchases are final, and bought points don't count toward elite status.
Can you transfer instead?
Amex Membership Rewards points go to Marriott at 1:1.2, so 10,000 Amex points become 12,000 Bonvoy points, in up to 48 hours. Amex sometimes adds a transfer bonus to Marriott on top.
I track those on my transfer bonuses page. With a good transfer bonus, moving Amex points can beat buying.

Final Thoughts
50% is as good as Marriott gets. It's still not cheap once you add tax, so I'd buy only to top up a specific stay.
The sale runs until November 23, which gives you time to find the room first and buy the points after.
