Buy IHG One Rewards Points: The 100% Sales and When They Come

IHG ran at least 14 buy points sales in 19 months, nearly all at 100%. There's no reason to buy IHG points at full price.

Share
The short version
  • IHG runs a buy points sale every month or two, and the bonus is almost always 100%.
  • The bonus is targeted: your percentage shows once you sign in, and there's a minimum per purchase.
  • You can buy 200,000 points a year, or 300,000 during some sales. Points take up to 72 hours to post.
  • No sale is on right now. The last one ended October 13, 2026.

IHG puts points on sale more often than any other program I track. From March 2025 to October 2026 it ran at least 14 sales, and almost every one was 100% more points.

The last one, a flash sale with an extra bonus on 35,000 points or more, ended October 13, 2026. IHG emailed me six times in less than four weeks about its last two sales, which tells you how much it wants you to buy. 😂

How IHG's sales work

The bonus is targeted. IHG's terms say your percentage shows when you sign in, and you need a minimum purchase per transaction to get it.

You can normally buy up to 200,000 points a calendar year. During some sales IHG raises that to 300,000, and with the 100% bonus that's up to 600,000 points.

Points can take up to 72 hours to post. IHG says the price includes all fees, but tax can be added, and purchases aren't refundable.

Is it worth buying?

Only at 100%, and only for a stay you've already priced. With another 100% sale every month or two, there's no reason to buy at full price.

Check the total in your cart, then compare it with the cash rate of the night you want. If the points cost less than the room, buy. If not, pay cash and earn points on the stay instead.

How to buy

  1. Sign in at IHG.com and open the buy points page.
  2. Check your bonus. During a sale, IHG shows your percentage once you're signed in.
  3. Choose the amount and pay. Tax can be added on top.

Can you transfer to IHG?

As far as I know, no Canadian credit card points transfer to IHG. So buying during a sale or earning on stays is how Canadians top up.

If you have an IHG stay coming, my IHG promotions post covers the bonus points on stays.

Final Thoughts

Don't buy IHG points at full price, and don't worry when a sale ends. The next 100% sale is usually a month or two away.

When it comes, buy for the stay you've priced, not for a trip that might happen someday.

Have you used bought IHG points for a stay? Let me know in the comments if it was worth it.
