IHG One Rewards Promotions: Up to 3X Points on Fall Stays, No Cap

IHG isn't the program I use most, but its fall promo this year is one of the simpler ones I've seen from them. Register, book in the app, and every stay after your first earns triple points, with no cap.

The fine print still matters, though, especially the first stay.

How Up to 3X works

You need to register first. Stays completed before you register don't count, even if they fall between October 1 and December 31.

Your first qualifying stay earns no bonus at all. It just starts the count.

From your second stay on, the booking channel decides the multiplier:

• 2X when you book direct on ihg.com or through IHG's call centre
• 3X when you book in the IHG One Rewards app (or WeChat in mainland China, and LINE in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand)

Each stay is judged on its own, so one stay can earn 2X and the next 3X. The first stay has to be booked direct too, or it won't count toward the sequence.

What "3X" actually means

The multiplier applies to your base points only. IHG's own example: a $100 night earns 1,000 base points, so 2X adds 1,000 more and 3X adds 2,000 more.

Elite bonus points are calculated separately and aren't multiplied. The promo's bonus points also don't count toward status.

A qualifying stay needs at least one night, a qualifying rate, and more than US$30 a night. Reward nights, points and cash, and bookings through Expedia or Booking.com don't count.

Better than last year?

For app bookers, yes.

The 2025 version only gave 3X from your third stay and capped the bonus at 70,000 points, while this year's gives 3X from the second stay with no cap.

If you book on ihg.com out of habit, it's a bit worse.

Last year everyone got 3X from the third stay, and this year a website booking tops out at 2X.

Stay 3, Pay 2 in Asia-Pacific

IHG also has a Stay 3, Pay 2 rate at about 240 hotels in Asia-Pacific, on suites and premium rooms, with breakfast for two included. Book by September 30, 2026 for stays until June 30, 2027.

Every three nights in a row gives one free night, so six nights costs four. You need to book at least three days before check-in, and cancellation is free until then.

In Korea, it covers Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas and two hotels in Alpensia, Pyeongchang. The list also includes ANA InterContinental Tokyo, Kimpton Shinjuku Tokyo and Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok.

This rate has already run twice this year, in April and September. If you miss this round, I'd expect it back.

Is it worth it?

If you already have two or more IHG stays planned before the end of the year, register now. It costs nothing, and the second stay onward earns a lot more if you book it in the app.

If you only have one stay coming up, skip the stress. The first stay earns nothing extra, so the promo won't change much for you.
