This card makes sense for one kind of business: a contractor, renovator or property manager who already buys most of its materials at Home Hardware and wants a business credit line to do it. It earns 1 Scene+ point per dollar at Home Hardware and nothing anywhere else, so it is a store card that happens to carry a Visa logo.
What I'd weigh is that the rewards are thin on purpose. The pitch is the credit: no annual fee on any card, a variable rate tied to Scotiabank Prime instead of the usual 20% range, and limits up to $150,000 unsecured or $500,000 secured. For everyday business spending outside Home Hardware, I'd carry a second card.
Welcome offer
Scotiabank is offering up to 15,000 bonus Scene+ points for accounts opened between October 1, 2026 and November 30, 2026 (verified on the Scotiabank page on October 15, 2026). You earn them by spending $1,500 at Home Hardware, Home Building Centre, Home Hardware Building Centre or Home Furniture locations in Canada, or at homehardware.ca, in your first 3 months; purchases anywhere else do not count.
Scene+ points are worth 1 cent per point (cpp), so the bonus is worth $150, which matches Scotiabank's own figure. The points arrive about 8 weeks after the $1,500 posts. Anyone who was a primary or secondary cardholder on a Scotiabank business credit card in the past 2 years, including through a product switch, is not eligible, though personal Scotia cardholders are.
For a contractor or renovator already buying materials at Home Hardware, $1,500 in 3 months is one or two orders. Add your regular 1 point per dollar on that spend and the first 3 months return at least 16,500 points, about $165.
Fees & eligibility
There is no annual fee, for the primary card or for any additional card, including co-borrowers and employee cards. Scotiabank does not print a minimum income or business revenue requirement. The credit limit starts at $5,000 and goes up to $150,000 unsecured or $500,000 secured, depending on approval and the security you provide.
The interest rate is variable and listed as from Prime + 4.99% to 10.99%, depending on whether the account is secured or unsecured; your exact rate and cash advance rate are set in your Credit Agreement for business. Rates rise by 5% after two missed payments in 12 months, and the minimum payment is set in your agreement as the greater of 2% or 3% of the balance (or interest only) and $50. Foreign currency purchases carry a 2.5% conversion fee, and the primary borrower and any co-borrower are liable for all charges, including employee cards.
Earning rewards
You earn 1 Scene+ point per dollar on business purchases at Home Hardware, Home Building Centre, Home Hardware Building Centre and Home Furniture locations in Canada and at homehardware.ca. At 1 cpp that is 1% back on your Home Hardware spending.
Every other purchase earns nothing: the Scene+ terms say plainly that the card is not awarded points anywhere else. For comparison, the personal Scotiabank Scene+ Visa, also with no annual fee, earns 2 points per dollar at Home Hardware and 1 point everywhere else, so this card only makes sense if you want a business account and credit line.
Redeeming rewards
Scene+ points are worth 1 cpp on travel. Apply Points to Travel covers travel charged to the card within the last 12 months, and Scene+ Travel (powered by Expedia) lets you book with points directly. You can also redeem through Points for Credit, gift cards from 60+ brands, groceries and entertainment.
At Home Hardware itself, the Scene+ terms let you take $10 off a purchase for every 1,000 points by presenting your Scene+ membership card, up to $500 per transaction. Points never expire while you hold the card. There are no airline or hotel transfer partners.
Perks & benefits
The headline benefit is the credit line: up to $500,000 secured, a Prime-based rate and free employee cards. Visa Spend Clarity for Business tracks each card's spending, and Scotia SelectPay turns purchases of $100 or more into fixed instalments.
Link the card to a Shell Go+ account for up to 10 cents per litre in value at Shell: a 3-cent instant discount, an extra 5 cents on V-Power fuel until June 1, 2027, and up to 2 cents in Scene+ points. You also get up to 25% off base rates at participating Avis locations worldwide and Budget locations in Canada and the U.S., plus Visa SavingsEdge merchant discounts. There is no lounge access, travel credit or mobile device insurance.
Insurance
Insurance is limited to purchase security and extended warranty, underwritten by FNAIC (a Manulife company). New items charged in full to the card are covered for 90 days against theft, loss or damage, up to $10,000 per occurrence, and manufacturer warranties are doubled by up to one extra year.
Both share a $60,000 lifetime maximum. There is no travel insurance of any kind (no medical, trip cancellation or rental car coverage) and no mobile device insurance.
My take
I'd get this card if your business buys most of its materials at Home Hardware and needs a larger credit line at a Prime-based rate; I'd skip it for anything else, because it earns nothing outside Home Hardware.
The rewards are an afterthought here: 1% back at one retailer and zero everywhere else. If you are a sole proprietor who just wants points on Home Hardware runs, the personal Scene+ Visa pays twice as much there and earns on everything else too.
Where this card stands apart is the credit. A rate quoted against Prime, limits up to $500,000 with security and free cards for every crew member make it a financing tool for a trade business more than a rewards card. I'd pair it with a cash back card for fuel, meals and bills, and check your exact rate in the credit agreement before carrying a balance.
The good
- No annual fee, including employee cards
- Variable Prime-based rate and limits up to $500,000 secured
- Up to 10 cents per litre at Shell
The catch
- Earns points only at Home Hardware, nothing elsewhere
- No travel insurance
- 2.5% foreign transaction fee
