Match Your Aeroplan Status to Avis Preferred

Aeroplan gives its Elite members and the primary cardholders of most Aeroplan credit cards free Avis Preferred elite status. The match started in 2022 and it’s still open in November 2026.

There’s no fixed end date any more. Your Avis status stays as long as you keep your Aeroplan status or the card that got you in. You can request your match on Air Canada’s site with your Aeroplan login.

The no-fee cards aren’t on the list. The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum^* Card, the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa^* Card and the student card don’t qualify on their own.

Before you request

Have an Avis Preferred account first. The email, postal code and last four digits of your driver’s licence on Aeroplan’s form must match your Avis profile, and your name must match your Aeroplan account.

If anything is different, fix your Avis profile before you submit.

The new status can take up to 7 business days to show up in your Avis profile. From then on, your Avis rentals earn Aeroplan points instead of Avis Preferred points. You can switch that back in your Avis profile.

Secondary cardholders don’t qualify through the card. They need Aeroplan status of their own.

The Hotels.com match has ended

In 2022 there was a second step. Once Avis approved your match, you could take your Avis status to Hotels.com Rewards and get Silver or Gold for 12 months, which is how I got Gold.

That sign-up site no longer exists, and Avis no longer mentions Hotels.com on its Avis Preferred page. Consider this part over.

Verdict

Aeroplan has added partners left and right since 2021, and Avis was one of them. Who doesn’t want a free car upgrade? 😉

If you hold Aeroplan status or one of the cards above, it costs nothing to ask. Don’t be lazy, request your match before your next rental!
